LOST PET?

Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog/Cat Gone?

Do you know where to look if your pet is missing? Many people are not aware of their city or county animal shelter and are also not aware that most shelters only have a 3 - 6 day "stray hold" for lost pets. After the stray hold is over, animals may be euthanized if the shelter runs out of space to adequately house them. It is extremely important to contact all local shelters as soon as you realize your pet is missing!

If you are a resident of Collin County, a lost animal may be picked up by the city animal control officer and taken to the city shelter. If your city doesn't have a shelter, pets may go to Collin County Animal Services in McKinney. Frisco residents should also be aware that even if you live in Denton County, Frisco Animal Control Officers often take found animals to the Collin County Shelter. If you have lost a pet, remember they can travel long distances so please contact all local shelters, including surrounding counties.

Microchipping your pet increases the chance of being reunited when they are lost! Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) offers low cost microchipping services as well as low cost spay/neuter clinics and low cost vaccinations. Visit them on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Texas-Coalition-for-Animal-Protection) or visit their website (www.texasforthem.org)

If you would like to view or help the homeless animals in Collin County, please visit the Collin County Urgents in McKinney, TX page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Collincountyanimalsindanger) or Cats of Collin County on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cats-of-Collin-County-Animal-Shelter-TX) to find out how you can be a part of saving the lives of our furry friends. Volunteers, adopters, foster homes, and networkers are always needed!
